We have a few details to finish in the carvings that are on the support posts, but it’s very near completion.

We’ve been periodically posting updates of the giant gateway Mark’s been working on. This past week the first post went in the ground – we’re looking forward the the second post and top piece going in this week.

Carved “Overalls Bear”

A customer stopped in a week or so ago and asked us to carve a six-foot bear with overalls that could be holding a lantern (a real one – she wanted it to put at the front of her drive). This is how he turned out:

Log Swing

We hand-crafted this swing from aspen logs for a client in Steamboat. Our favorite details were the scalloped back and the non-traditional frame.

Mirror, Mirror…

We were commissioned to do a beast of a log-framed mirror made from aspen a few weeks back; this is how the project turned out:

Goodwill Award

Last evening, woodZwayz was presented with the Goodwill Award from the Kremmling Cattle Kings Youth Hockey League. We donated a cowboy carving for a fundraiser last March, and are proud to continue supporting the Cattle Kings. But we think the award’s pretty cool, and will be hanging it in our office.

Bald Eagle

This eagle was in-progress when a good friend and client of ours purchased it. We mounted it last week on his property where Mark’s done several other stump carvings:

Mark took extra care to define this eagle's feathers.

Mark mounted the eagle to appear as though it's coming in for a landing.

Carved bald eagle; wing span is about 6 feet.

2nd Place – Carving in the Ozarks

Last week we traveled to Eureka Springs, Arkansas for Mark to compete in Carving in the Ozarks.

Carving took place Friday and Saturday. Each carver was given two logs and expected to produce one piece per day. The pieces are then auctioned off, and awards are given for the pieces that placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd based on their auction price.

The 10-foot bar Mark made Friday placed 2nd:

We were especially pleased and excited with the win because of the stiff competition at this event, including well-known carvers Ken Braun, Steven Higgins, Jame Doren and Jesse Beeson.

Mark’s Saturday piece didn’t fair as well, but it was a cute concept that we’ll be refining and producing for sale at our shop:

Our next competition is the 13th Annual Oregon Divisional Chainsaw Sculpting Championship in Reedsport, Oregon June 14-17.

Eagle-in-Progress

This eagle is about 3/4 carved. Mark will be finishing it up later this weekend. We’re excited to see it completed finished! It will be landing at the home of a Frisco resident, one of our good clients and friends. Check back soon to see it complete!

Carved Fox

Carving foxes for our friends up at Sun Valley made us want to have some around the shop. This is the first addition:
