Hoping to have his replacement up within the next week or so. OK, so he doesn’t have a horse. But he’s an authentic, Western cowboy! [...]

I really enjoy doing fun, different characters and carvings, but I also get that people want bears. I can’t carve just another bear, though, so I came up with these guys (perfected in clay before wood): I anticipate these will eventually be some of my quick-carves for demo events.

In April, I was fortunate to participate in a carving contest in Arkansas featuring some of the best chainsaw carvers from around the U.S. We were charged with creating one piece each day (one Friday, one Saturday) to be auctioned off Sunday. I started drawing pictures of fly fishing flies some years ago using water color and pen-and-ink techniques. Had the idea to translate the same style onto wood discs the size of drink coasters to be used either as coasters or as small pieces of wall art…To view more of my pen-and-ink work, click here. [...]

Mark’s a big history buff, so when he had the idea of designing this trio of trees into a scene with an old Indian at his camp, he didn’t want it to be the stereotypical Indian pictured so often in Western art. Instead, he wanted him as he truly may have been – toothless, dressed [...]
